With the rising inflation rates, geopolitical conflicts, worsening global economy, energy and food prices, policy decisions, and other shaping factors of the overall business world, it’s no surprise that some have been more affected by others. The food industry is one of the sectors that took the biggest hit. Disruptions in the supply chain are normal and often occur due to natural crises and calamities, but the ongoing situation is harder than ever. The aftermath of Covid-19 and geopolitical conflicts add significantly to today’s supply chain crisis. Transportation delays, improper storage, weather, and other daunting factors make it more challenging for players ranging from the supermarket dairy supplier to your local nuts producer, raising the bar regarding efforts necessary to stay afloat and thrive.

Despite all the urgency of government bodies and businesses to align and find solutions to the crisis, one thing’s for sure. Everyone’s life depends on resilience and well-functioning supply chains. Here’s what it takes for a business in the food industry to overcome the challenges brought by the supply chain crisis and solidify its pillars to stand tall regardless of how factors like price fluctuations and resource availability will impact the sector.

What’s the main problem with the supply chains, whatsoever?

The supply chain crisis may be all you hear about these days around tables carrying out this discussion. The drink and food industry fought through testing times, given the food inflation that climbed by 18.2% in February of this year, only hitting the highest threshold in the past 45 years. The chaos seems to be calling for more effective solutions than ever, as the impositions on national transport arise, airports are log-jammed, and the supply chain is too fragile to become immune to the aftermaths of the shocks encountered as well as the hits it may witness along the road.

With all being said and done, the supply chain struggles today with employee shortages, labor insufficiencies, rising food prices, more unstable vendors, as well as disruptions in logistics, shipping, and retail firms. Customers might be tolerant, but long delays, increased delivery prices, poorer product quality, reduced product quantities, unfriendly customer support and other issues stemming from today’s worsening supply chain situation are not sweetening their voice or persuading them to remain loyal and understanding. Let’s see what businesses in the food industry can do to overcome and meet customers where they are in today’s burdened set.

Invest in technology

Experts and future-prepared businesses know that keeping up with technological advances can provide the most significant competitive advantage that’s sure to ensure the longevity of the equipped one. A good investment in technology equals another ace up one’s business’ sleeve, whether you count the costs resulting from mundane tasks’ automation, robots that minimize staff’s responsibilities, chatbots that serve as customer service and support, etc. Not everything has to revolve around robots whatsoever. There are numerous smaller and easier-to-implement practices that technology has driven and given to the world so that businesses dealing with labor scarcity, production management, and other supply chain problems can quicker overcome these hurdles without wrecking their budgets. Tech involvement goes further than one may think. For instance, suppose you’re manufacturing cocoa biscuits, but your supplier charges you a lot for their services. Then, using a innovation-oriented provider such as ofi.com could save you a significant share since they are additionally cutting on their production and distribution costs for cocoas, nuts, spices, dairy, etc., due to their automated and perfected operations. They can, many times, improve finances.

Take, for instance, the kiosks in stores. Customers can now choose, order their products, and pay for them without the help of an employee. They can even refill their own glasses with drinks. This frees employees’ time and reduces their responsibilities significantly, potentially obliterating the requirement for such help.

Discover the most lucrative distribution means

4.1 million Americans left their jobs a year ago, whereas the job vacancies in the UK stood at more than 1.16 million between October and December of the same year. Employees are harder to find than in previous years, and the good ones are even more improbable. A helping hand in times of crisis is difficult, if not impossible, to find. If it is discoverable, it will likely cost you an arm and a leg, which is the last thing your business needs when dealing with rising prices, profit reductions, higher salaries, higher taxes, and the whole array of aftermaths whatsoever. For this reason, many budget-oriented businesses have started to pick up a business model inspired by budget-focused customers themselves, meaning offering them financial perks for a small effort from their side.

Take examples from the heavyweights

Consumers today are being offered tips for picking up products from the store. Take a look at Domino’s “$3 tip” for clients, for instance, and see how it reduced their need for employee work. Other companies give back to customers opting for in-store pickup or remote orders.

Similar methods are helpful for both parties involved and significantly take a load off the staff’s shoulders, making the cost of labor less of a burden and adding bucks when the BTL is crossed, especially in an era where dine-in is losing ground to at-home meals. Even if the former has been your primary method of serving, exploring and trying alternative delivery methods could prove more profitable than you might think.

Closing words

The supply chain mayhem is worsening daily, meaning businesses looking to secure their spot in the rankings and keep their customers must be more vigilant and adaptive than ever. The measures thoroughly depicted above are ensured to help them safeguard their operations, customer base, position, and potential profits when tackled vigorously and adjusted to meet the specific needs of the involved parties, whether you look at vendors, customers, suppliers, or upper management.

Cappuccino vs. Latte: Unveiling the Espresso Elegance https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/cappuccino-vs-latte-unveiling-the-espresso-elegance/ https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/cappuccino-vs-latte-unveiling-the-espresso-elegance/#respond Sat, 25 Nov 2023 11:17:57 +0000 https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/?p=90258 Two iconic beverages stand out when drinking coffee, each with unique flavors and textures. Cappuccino and latte, often found on your favorite coffee shop’s menu, have been delighting caffeine enthusiasts for years. But what sets them apart?

Dive deep into the aromatic world of roasted coffee, steamed milk, and espresso shots to uncover the key differences between these popular drinks.

Understanding the basics

While you’re figuring out the basics of cappuccino and latte, it’s important to remember that although they’re both roasted coffee espresso-based drinks, a cappuccino has distinct layers of espresso, steamed milk, and foam or frothed milk. In contrast, a latte has more blended foamed milk and espresso with a thin layer of foam on top.

The cappuccino vs. latte debate often boils down to personal preference. It’s common knowledge to a barista that cappuccinos require a classic 1:1:1 ratio. That’s one part espresso shot, one part steamed milk, and one part foam.

Lattes, conversely, are more or less milk-heavy, with a typical pour being one part espresso shots to three parts steamed milk, crowned with a dash of foam.

Exploring the flavor profiles

A cappuccino is a harmonious blend of equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and foam, offering a robust coffee flavor with a light, airy texture. It’s a delightful dance of boldness and subtlety.

On the other hand, a latte such as a latte macchiato, with its higher ratio of steamed milk to espresso, provides a creamier, smoother flavor experience.

The coffee flavor, whether served using hot or cold water, is more subdued, allowing the rich, velvety milk to take center stage.

Caffeine content

The caffeine content in these popular espresso drinks is dictated by the shot of espresso used. Since a cappuccino contains an equal ratio of espresso, steamed milk, and milk foam, it has more caffeine. A latte has more foam and steamed milk, slightly diluting the caffeine per ounce.

However, the difference is minimal. For caffeine lovers, the key lies in the ‘pull’ of the espresso shot. A standard shot of espresso contains around 63mg of caffeine.

So, whether you’re sipping a frothy cappuccino or a creamy latte, the rich, dark, aromatic shot of espresso provides that much-desired caffeine kick.

Popularity and preferences

Cappuccino and latte are staples in coffee shops around the globe and offer unique flavors and experiences. Traditional cappuccino and caffe latte have distinct compositions that affect the overall taste and texture.

Cappuccino offers a robust coffee flavor. On the other hand, with their espresso and steamed milk blend, lattes offer a creamier, more balanced cup of joe.

The role of espresso in cappuccino and latte

The role of espresso in both drinks is vital. The shot contributes to the balanced harmony among espresso, steamed milk, and a light layer of frothy foam in cappuccinos.

In contrast, with lattes, the espresso’s role is more about creating a smooth, creamy concoction of drip coffee that’s less intense but equally satisfying.

The espresso in cappuccino and latte underlies the key difference between the two: the strength of the coffee flavor.

The making of cappuccino and latte

You’re now moving on to making cappuccino and latte, which involves understanding the ingredients and the preparation process. It all starts with espresso and milk, which require precision and care.

For a cappuccino, you’ll need to pull a single or double shot of espresso, then add an equal amount of steamed milk and milk foam.

Conversely, a latte requires one or two shots of more steamed milk and a smaller portion of milk foam. It’s a balancing act of textures and flavors, with the quality of the espresso shot being crucial.

The result is a captivating blend of bold espresso, creamy milk, and airy foam, a testament to the beauty of coffee culture.

Coffee cup sizes for cappuccino and latte

You’ll notice a difference in coffee cup sizes for cappuccino and latte, as cappuccinos are typically served in smaller 6 oz cups, and lattes take up the same amount in larger 8-12 oz cups. This isn’t arbitrary but a reflection of the critical differences in these popular beverages’ composition.

A cappuccino consists of equal parts espresso, steamed milk, and foam, giving it a robust, balanced taste. The smaller cup size ensures the perfect proportion of each component.

On the other hand, a latte contains more milk, resulting in a milder flavor complemented by the larger cup size.

Exciting variations of cappuccino and latte

You’ll find that both cappuccino and latte come in exciting variations, and you can customize them with flavored syrups or toppings to create a unique coffee experience.

For instance, cappuccinos can be transformed into a mocha cappuccino by adding chocolate syrup, while lattes can be turned into a caramel latte with a drizzle of caramel.

Even more, baristas often add a personal touch with latte art, creating beautiful designs for your beverage.

Seasonal drink variations like the pumpkin spice latte, with its warm spice blend, offer a delightful twist. You can also experiment with almond, soy, or oat milk types.

Cappuccino and latte History

Exploring coffee history, you’ll discover that cappuccino and latte have fascinating origins, each with a unique story steeped in cultural significance.

The cappuccino, birthed in Italy, takes its name from the Capuchin friars, their brown robes reminiscent of the rich color of this coffee. Your favorite coffee shop’s cappuccino mirrors the traditional Italian recipe with equal parts of espresso, steamed milk, and frothy foam.

Contrastingly, the latte, with its roots in America, exhibits a more milk-heavy composition. In Italian, the hot milk latte truly lives up to its name. With a larger ratio of milk to espresso, topped with a delicate layer of foam, the latte’s smoother, creamier texture sets it apart.

Immersing yourself in this history, you’ll find a new appreciation for these beloved coffee shop staples.

Last words

So, whether you’re drawn to the distinct layers of a cappuccino or the creamy blend of a latte, it’s clear both have unique offerings. The choice depends on your flavor, texture, and caffeine content preferences. Ultimately, it’s about savoring the experience, appreciating the craft, and finding joy in every sip of your chosen brew.

Brewing your own craft beer: what does it take? https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/brewing-your-own-craft-beer-what-does-it-take/ https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/brewing-your-own-craft-beer-what-does-it-take/#respond Wed, 15 Nov 2023 09:36:11 +0000 https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/?p=89301 Beer has always attracted a large number of enthusiasts, some of whom are driven by a passion and a desire to learn more about this product, as well as, of course, the pleasure of going to the pub after a long, tiring day at work and enjoying a glass of refreshing beer.

Today we know that the ancient Anglo-Saxons started brewing malt and beer at the same time as the Egyptians, around 5000 BC. For this very reason, beer is synonymous with tradition for many people and they are eager to brew their very own beer at home.

Devoting yourself to homebrewing, requires study, dedication and preparation, especially if you want to achieve a noteworthy result.

What does it take, then, to make DIY beer?

Everything you need for homebrewing

Home brewing requires first and foremost the use of the right ingredients and a thorough knowledge of each. Malt, hops, water and yeast are undoubtedly the four big players.

Each must have specific characteristics, which allow the desired result to be achieved. It is necessary, for example, to know very well the different types of brewing yeast, to understand the difference between the various strains, which in turn are grouped into top-fermenting or bottom-fermenting yeasts. Delving into these aspects allows the ‘DIY brewer’ to choose the type of beer to be obtained and to mix the ingredients in such a way as to produce a beer with unique aromas.

In addition, it is necessary to be provided with all the tools required. For example, anyone who wants to brew beer at home must, at the very least, equip themselves with pots with a capacity of at least 5 liters, a can of hopped extract, and all the tools for fermentation, from fermenters to a densimeter, crystal tube, and paddle. Then you also need to get everything you need for bottling: glass bottles, corks and corking machine, as well as what you need to clean the equipment. In some cases, you can find kits already prepared for home brewing, with everything you need. For those more versed in the subject, however, there is also a choice of semi-professional equipment.

How to brew beer at home

No matter whether brewed at home or on the farm, the brewing process is the same, at least in terms of the succession of specific production steps.

The first of these involves the opening of the malt, which then, is to be combined with the hops for the preparation of the wort, boiling in the pot full of water the two ingredients together, for about an hour. Once boiled and cooled, it is necessary to add the yeast and let the wort ferment for as long as necessary. The latter varies depending on which yeast strain is used and can be up to several weeks.

As a general rule, it is always good to carry out fermentation in a dark room, away from sources of excessive heat. Halfway through fermentation, it is important to transfer the wort into a second fermenter so that all those residues that normally settle to the bottom are removed.

This is followed by the addition of sugar, an essential element in releasing the carbon dioxide and giving it that special fizz that normally characterizes the flavour of beer.

Finally, the bottling stage must be followed, that is, transferring the beer into bottles and resealing them. What should definitely not be forgotten is to use perfectly clean and sterilized equipment and to seal the bottles tightly with special caps, so as to persevere the integrity of the product for quite some time.

Subway® Rises Above the Rest with a Flying Footlong https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/subway-rises-above-the-rest-with-a-flying-footlong/ https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/subway-rises-above-the-rest-with-a-flying-footlong/#respond Tue, 05 Sep 2023 00:52:34 +0000 https://www.globalbrandsmagazine.com/?p=86954 Subway unveils the Subway in the Sky: a new dining experience onboard a blimp and a thrilling capstone to its latest Eat Fresh® Refresh launch. America can experience the heights Subway has reached since it began its transformation journey in 2021.

The vessel embodies The Beast, one of the new Deli Hero subs introduced in July that boasts a half pound of its new freshly sliced meat. Underneath the nearly 180-foot-long footlong, Subway transformed the gondola into a floating restaurant that accommodates up to six sandwich lovers per trip.

The Subway in the Sky will stop in cities across the U.S. as it soars through the sky in September, including Kansas City, Atlanta, Orlando and Miami.* Up to 40 Subway fans per day will enjoy a sandwich ‘flight’ of all four Deli Hero subs on board the blimp as they float 1,000 feet above the ground. To reserve a seat on the Subway in the Sky and to view detailed flight information, people can visit Register.SubwayInTheSky.com.

    More Fun for Everyone

In addition to the Subway in the Sky rides, Subway is giving fans a chance go to Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas with a Subway in the Sky online game by visiting SubwayInTheSky.com or scanning a QR code in their local Subway restaurant.** People can take a daily spin on the blimp-themed slot machine that enters them in a sweepstakes for a chance to win a Super Bowl trip and unlocks a chance at special discounts on Deli Hero subs, like $5.99 footlongs or 15% off.

The Subway in the Sky reinforces a summer of exciting changes at all U.S. restaurants following the debut of freshly sliced meats and Deli Hero subs, a major expansion and new category in its Subway Series menu. Alongside 10 straight quarters of positive sales and international growth, the sky is no longer the limit for Subway.

*Flight dates and time subject to change due to weather or other atmospheric conditions.

**NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A purchase will not increase your chances of winning. Sweepstakes begins at 12:00 PM ET on 9/7/23 and ends at 11:59:59 PM ET on 9/30/23. Open only to legal residents of 50 US/DC, 18+ years of age. For Official Rules, including how to enter, odds, prize details and restrictions, visit https://SubwayInTheSky.com/en-us/Rules. Customers can enjoy the simply delectable taste of the Maple Hazel Latte, Maple Hazel Hot Chocolate, Maple Hazel Iced Latte, and the Costa Club App exclusive – Maple Hazel Frappe (no coffee) whilst on the move this Autumn, whether you’re kicking up the leaves on an autumnal walk through the park, or on route home to get cosy.

    Toastie galore

The way to someone’s heart is through a toastie, or so that’s what Costa Coffee has heard – as two new appetising toasties are added to the menu:

    • Enjoy the taste of Autumn – toasted, with the brand-new Hog Roast Toastie. Tuck into melt-in-the-mouth hickory pulled pork with spiced apple glaze and savour the sweetness of caramelised onion chutney. The delicious toastie is finished with sage and garlic stuffing and melted oak-smoked cheddar, topped with a cheesy garlic and herb bloomer bread that’s toasted to perfection.
    • To beat the Autumn chill, why not go for the new Nacho Chilli Cheese and Chicken Toastie. Featuring juicy British roast chicken, fiery Mexicana® cheese, spicy jalapeños, drizzled with gooey cheese sauce and served on cheese and tortilla chip topped bloomer bread – because there’s no such thing as too much cheese
    • With a menu of over seven classic toastie options, from The Chicken and Bacon Toastie to Vegan Ham and Cheese Toastie, there is plenty of choice for everybody to upgrade their lunch and enjoy this Autumn.

    Exciting new sweet additions

As the leaves begin to fall and the weather gets cooler, a sweet pick me-up is the perfect treat, and Costa Coffee has many joining and returning this Fall:

    • Why not pair one of the new drinks from the Maple Hazel range with the return of the Maple Hazelnut Muffin, filled with maple sauce and topped with icing and a cocoa confectionery decoration in the shape of a leaf – very on season!
    • If you’re more of a chocolate fan, the Maple Hazelnut Blondie is for you. With a blondie base, it has a mouth-watering maple flavour, with nutty hazelnuts. Finished with a topping made from white chocolate, maple syrup and yummy edible decorations, you can’t beat this sweet treat.
    • To make the most of the Autumn season’s ripe fruits, treat yourself to an exciting addition to the menu, the new Apple and Blackberry Loaf Cake. The moist and fluffy cake is loaded with juicy apples and blackberries, sprinkled with a crunchy crumble, and finished with a drizzle of pretty pink fondant.
    • Or if you have more of a sweet tooth, why not try a slice of the Chocolate and Salted Caramel Cake, a layered chocolate sponge, filled with salted caramel and chocolate frostings, topped with dark chocolate curls, fudge pieces, and drizzled with extra caramel.
    • Other new additions include the new Loaded Flapjack, a golden, buttery flapjack loaded with cranberries, sultanas, almonds, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, finished with a sweet yoghurt drizzle. And perfect for trick or treaters, try the new Iced Pumpkin Gingerbread Biscuit, a delicious gingerbread biscuit decorated with coloured fondant icing.

    Macmillan Cancer Support Coffee Morning

For a second year running, Costa Coffee is proud to be a joint Headline Partner of Macmillan Cancer Support’s Coffee Morning, helping to raise crucial funds to support people living with cancer through the sale of three treats to the Autumn menu:

    • The Macmillan Chocolate Muffin makes a return after being a hit in 2022. The indulgent muffin is filled with a sweet chocolate sauce and is topped with frosting and finished with milk and white chocolate buttons.
    • Also returning is the Macmillan Carrot and Walnut Cake, made from walnuts, fruits, and spices, and topped with a layer of cream cheese icing and decorated with coloured sugar sprinkles.
    • A brand-new addition for 2023 is the new Macmillan Iced Shortcake Biscuit, decorated with coloured fondant icing.

When purchasing a slice of Carrot Cake, the Chocolate Muffin, or an Iced Shortcake Biscuit, 20p** will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support – which can make a huge difference to those affected by cancer and supported by Macmillan. In 2022, Costa Coffee donated an amazing £300,000 to the charity, and this year, the goal is to raise even more!
